Midwest Environmental Consulting Services, Inc. (MEC) provides a wide range of asbestos consulting, inspection, and abatement services to both public and private sector clients. Whether commercial or industrial, our licensed inspectors perform the sampling and create a user-friendly report to identify whether the materials have tested positive or negative for asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).

Asbestos-containing dust can be generated when asbestos-containing geological deposits are broken down through natural weathering or construction activities. This dust may pose a severe risk to those who inhale it.

All samples are examined by a licensed analyst from an independent third-party laboratory which is accredited by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and takes part in the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP).

Inspections for
Schools (K-12)

The rules and regulations outlined in the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) require all K-12 schools to conduct 6-month and 3-year asbestos re-inspections within all school buildings. Our state-licensed inspectors will:

  • Perform visual inspections

  • Document any changes in the condition of the asbestos-containing materials

  • Recommend any necessary operations or maintenance activities

  • Forward appropriate paperwork to state agencies to fulfill AHERA requirements create an easy-to-understand inspection report


If an Illinois entity purchases a building and then converts it into a school, by law the owner must perform a new AHERA survey within 60 days.
